All about Kodo Professional Scissors
Kodo professional shears are manufactured from the finest Japanese steel to ensure they function superbly for many years.
Our scissors are hand crafted from sand cast blanks by craftsmen who have many years experience in manufacturing the finest scissors.
The Professional range include a ratcheted tensioning system so that you can ensure they are perfectly balanced quickly and easily at all times. As a professional you will understand the importance of keeping your scissors properly balanced; too loose and they won't cut properly, too tight increases the wear on your scissors.
Instructions for Maintaining Optimum Balance
NEVER OVER-TIGHTEN YOUR SHEARS!
1. Never adjust your shears in the open position.
2. Wipe the inside of both blades to remove any fragments of hair. Be very careful, the edges of the blades are very sharp.
3. Holding the shear in normal way, turn your hand so that your palm faces upwards. Pen the blades fully by an upwards movement of the thumb. Remove thumb from handle. The upper blade should be allowed to fall, using only its own weight, towards the closed position. Your shears should stop closing 1" to 1.5" from the tip of the blades. This represents a well balanced shear.
If the blade fails to reach this position or fails to stay open between these points it will need to be adjusted. The following procedure tells you how.
4. Close the shear completely. The adjusting screw has a ratchet built in. You will feel a slight click as it is turned.
Tighten the screw by turning it clockwise, one click at a time, for a shear that is too loose.
Repeat the thumb test (step 3) after each click. DO NOT TURN THE SCREW MORE THAN ONE CLICK BETWEEN TESTS.
Using this method you will return your shears to their optimum balance.
If, when you test your shears, they do not close under their own weight, they have been over tightened and must be loosened immediately. To loosten, turn the screw anti-clockwise.
Reset your shears by following the above procedure.
Cleaning Your Shears
Always
carry out this procedure on a soft flat surface and exercise extreme caution. The blades are extremely sharp. It is imperative that you do not drop any of the components as this will result in damage.
Close the blades completely.
Turn the adjustment screw anti-clockwise until you can remove it.
Remove the tension plate.
Carefully separate the two blades, taking note of the small nylon washer on the pivot screw. Be sure not to lose this as it is very important to the performance of your shears and must be put back into position when reassembling. Clean the components with a soft cloth or soft tissue.
Reassemble the blades and replace the tension plate, keeping the blades in the closed position at all times.
Replace the adjustment screw and turn clockwise until you hear the first few clicks.
Carry out the thumb test (step 3 above).
Repeat step 4 until the optimum balance has been restored.
Remember, regular sharpening is required to extend the life of your shears. |
